Couture

I do love working 3-dimensionally and having something tangible and practical in the end, which is why I sew whenever I get a chance.

I was originally going to use this owl fabric to make a bag. Then I decided to make pajama pants. But I accidentally cut out 2 right legs and didn't have enough fabric to fix it. So I got new fabric (store was out of the owl fabric) and was going to make new pairs of pajama pants with owl right legs, and contrasting fabric on the other. I was nearly done with one pair but it just looked dumb. So I took it apart and made a bag out of it anyway! Morals of the story: stick to Plan A, and if you goof up, just re-do it right!

(My dog really likes to look in bags. If he had a speech bubble above his head in this pic it would read, " Can I put the ball in the bag yet? Can I, huh?"

Typography

For this typography assignment, each student created their own typeface out of some sort of existing object. One rule was that it couldn't be too easy! For example, you couldn't just take a bunch of Legos and shape each letter; there had to be something organic and unexpected that the chosen object lent to the shape.

Classmates made typefaces out of headphones in different contortions, hair accessories, kitchen utensils, mushrooms, and other wild things. I made mine out of folded paper in a juice glass. I went through a lot of paper to get each letter shaped just right! We each presented our typeface as I did above, arranging letters in a sentence using the entire alphabet to check for legibility. Fun!

Be sure to check out a lot of new work on my website, including a new look to the website itself!

Springy Springer!

I have a lab-springer who's like this all year 'round. If he had thought-bubbles they would read, "Hey! What are we doing now? Bringing laundry upstairs? My favorite thing! Downstairs? Awesome! Checking on the cat? Can't wait!" Retrieving air-borne toys? "Funnest thing EVER!"

When spring is "just around the corner," as Frog and Toad would say, and I get to shed layer upon layer of insulating clothing, I get a little springy too!

A birthday invitation for a tween fan of comics & graphic novels! It's imprintable, so if desired, each invitation could be personalized.

Brace yourself...for Halloween!

This is the first Halloween my daughter has had braces, and the rules of orthodontia are "nothing sticky or hard." So the idea of going trick-or-treating seemed a little un-fun to her. We decided to throw our first Halloween party, so we could serve softer, less sticky fare. The situation inspired this imprintable invitation.

Inspired by mangoes

I felt like doing something mangoey! And I love depicting hair.
